As a student passionate about pursuing a career in the medical field and with a keen interest in cardiology, I was placed at Northeast Florida Endocrine & Diabetes Association with David R. Sutton, M.D., as well as Baker & Gilmour Cardiovascular Institute with Dr. Trevor O. Greene, M.D., and Katie DeGoursey, PA-C. Now, I’m so fortunate to be completing the final week of my internship at Baptist Medical.
I strive to become a doctor who has excellent bedside manners and fosters a sense of trust. This vision was further shaped with Dr. Sutton, whose approach with patient interaction remained with me. He was so connected with every one of his patients, where he knew their names, stories, and backgrounds. Expanding on what I received throughout this internship with Ms. Katie, I learned all about the advancements being made in the world of cardiac surgery. She taught me from the basic vocabulary all the way to knowing what happens in an aortic valve replacement surgery. Building on that foundation, one quote that Dr. Greene left with me that I won’t forget is, “You see what you look for; you recognize what you know.”
This six-week internship experience provided me with endless opportunities. It wasn’t just a one and done; it gave me the chance to network with my mentors and planted a seed of opportunities that AnnieRuth instilled in me, enabling me to connect with all the amazing people they’ve exposed me to.
