Student Internship Experiences

Brissia V.

My experience with the AnnieRuth internship has been valuable and exciting. To begin, my career aspiration is to become a medical professional, I have been considering surgery or becoming a pediatric physician, however I am still learning and exploring. During teh first week of teh expericne, I was placed with Dr. Anil George, a primary care physician at North Florida Integrative Medicine.

This experience granted me the opportunity to shadow Dr. George and the medical assistants practicing in the office. Dr. George practiced integrative medicines, combining traditional medicine with holistic medicine. The Medical Assistants taught me the process of drawing blood and the process of an A1C for patients with diabetes. This valuable experience has taught me that the relationship between a patient and their doctor is fundamental to being a great doctor providing great treatment to patients. There needs to be a family-like relationship to build trust. I enjoyed shadowing Dr. George and his ways of not just using traditional medicine but also implementing minerals, vitamins and supplements in his practice to improve the health of his patients.

The AnnieRuth Foundation’s summer internship program has been instrumental in preparing me for my future career aspirations and overall success by teaching me valuable skills and lessons that I take with me every day. I have been taught to manage my money, to become and present myself as a professional, and allowed me the opportunity of shadowing several physicians to learn more about my career aspiration. This experience has been very informative and only pushes me to become more inspired and excited to become a medical professional in the future.
