My career aspiration is to be a Personal Trainer! A personal trainer is an individual who sets the stage for safe, fair and effective programs for their clients. It can be done in one one-on-one sessions, or a group session and the individuals should be medically cleared to do these activities. Personal Trainers help to motivate, set goals, and give positive/meaningful/constructive criticism for one’s wellbeing and spirit. I was placed at The WerkShop these things. Mr. Sean, head of the establishment, taught me grit, mindfulness, and awareness for when clients perform certain motions. For example, he gave me tips on how to perform the proper push-up . Knees bent, heels elevated to where you’re on your tippy toes. Chest up and hands pointed outward.
To give a brief description of my time at The WerkShop I’ll just say it was exciting. Everyday was a sight for sore eyes, being able to see new, stretches, exercises, techniques and mindsets. Given my time there I made sure the toilets were stocked, towels and washing rags were washed and placed in the washrooms, sweep/vacuum the floors and turf. I would also watch trainers teach and preach to their clients. They all have their own special quirks on how each one will do their exercises, for instance Mrs. Fhonta is the bootcamp trainer and her clients would super set their exercises after everyone. Example: Doing 25 push-ups then immediately doing 10 burpees. I would quietly sit back to watch them and would politely as questions if I had any and would then write what I saw and learned in a book.
As far as my experience in the AnnieRuth Foundation… it was exemplary. The program is for high school juniors and seniors. It begins with a 10 month training a development segment which takes place in the form of Business Seminars. We learned to dress to impress, social skills and workforce development skills. We also did an Etiquette class that taught us how to handle ourselves in a subpar/exquisite estate. We learned how and when to use various utensils, as well as how to eat ‘the right way.’
The AnnieRuth Foundation was instrumental in preparing me for my future career as well as for adulthood. I am very grateful for the experience.
