At the beginning of this internship experience I wanted to pursue a career in labor and delivery nursing. I was assigned to intern at UF Health as well as various other medical professionals.
I have interned with Dr. Price who is a nephrology doctor where I learned about kidney functions, and the different stages of kidney fallouts and how to identify them. I then went on to intern with Dr. Katie, a cardiologist physician assistant, where I learned how to take blood pressure, use a stethoscope, and how to work and how to perform an ultrasound of the heart.
The Annie Ruth’s Summer Internship Program has prepared me for my future career in medicine by allowing me early hands-on experience in various fields of medicine. I was introduced to medical fields I had not heard of, or some that I had never thought I would like. This experience has been an eye opener for me to really decide what I want my future career to look like.
