My name is Nicholas and my aspiration is to become a Chef. Through the AnnieRuth Foundation’s summer internship program, I was able to get a glimpse of what it’s like to be a Chef. I was placed at Annie Ru’s a local catering and carry out restaurant located on the northwest side of Jacksonville. At Annie Ru’s, I Iearned so many valuable things. One of the most important things is that being a Chef is not a one person operation; it’s a team effort and it’s like a big family in there and just like family we argue and fight but end of the day when it comes to getting the job done we get it done. Another thing that I have learned from working at Annie Ru’s is that there is no time for breaks and when you get one thing done there is always something else that will need to be done and that everyone has a role to play in the success of that business. If there were no more six hundred pans for the yams and the rice that will affect how fast we can get more yams or rice out there.
Lastly, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Mrs. Ruthie Daniels for loving me, teaching me, and always keeping me on the right path. Thank you to Annie Ru’s staff for making me feel welcome and at home. And a very special thank you to Ms. Dee and the AnnieRuth Foundation for providing an experience that will stay with me for a lifetime.
