My career aspiration is to become an orthodontist, a goal fueled by my passion for helping others feel confident about themselves. I’ve always been fascinated by how a healthy, beautiful smile can positively impact a person’s self-esteem. During my internship at Pediatric Smiles, I had the opportunity to experience this firsthand. The staff there were incredibly welcoming and compassionate, creating a supportive environment for both patients and interns. Throughout my internship, I was exposed to a wide range of hands-on experiences. I had the opportunity to observe procedures such as dental fillings, the application and removal of braces (debonding), X-rays, and the creation of retainers. One of the most valuable skills I gained was learning the correct way to clean and sterilize dental instruments. I also became familiar with the day-to-day routines of a dental office and even learned how to chart patients’ teeth during exams.
Participating in the AnnieRuth Foundation’s Summer Internship Program has been a vital step in preparing me for my future. This experience not only allowed me to explore a career path I’m passionate about but also helped me discover my strengths and potential in a professional setting. It has given me a strong foundation, and a head start as I begin my journey toward becoming an orthodontist. I now feel confident and prepared to continue pursuing my goals in college and beyond.
