I aspire to be a clinical physician. During my internship experience, I was able to shadow a gastroenterologist and a general surgeon.
While shadowing these doctors, I learned many invaluable skills and gained lots of knowledge. Dr. Jones and I had conversations about different types of hernias and how each type is repaired through surgery. I was able to observe multiple types of hernias and learned that discomfort from hernias is an indicator that an operation is needed. With Dr. Rawls, I was able to learn about many GI issues, ranging from irritable bowel syndrome to gastroesophageal reflux disease.
The AnnieRuth foundation greatly helped me in many ways. In the beginning of the program, the training provided a lot of invaluable information that I can use in my future, and the HESIPs sessions were lots of fun. The summer internship allowed me to gain experience and knowledge in fields that I am passionate about. All in all, the AnnieRuth foundation taught me lots of life skills and helped me gain experience in the field that I want to pursue.
