About The Akhlaghi Family
Dr. Mosen Akhlaghi
Dr. Akhlaghi is of Iranian decent. He left Iran when he was 19 years old; leaving behind his mother, father, and four sisters. Dr. Akhlaghi traveled to Hungary where he discovered an interest in medicine. Someone gave him the information for medical school and he enrolled. Then, in 1995, Dr. Akhlaghi came to the United States of America to further his education and advance his practice in medicine.
Currently, Dr. Akhlaghi is a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician who earned his medical degree from the University of Debrecen Medical and Health Science Center. He completed an internship (Internal Medicine), and residency (Emergency Medicine) at New York Medical Center.
Mrs. Lauriel Spencer Akhlaghi
Mrs. Akhlaghi is from St.Vincent and the Grenadines, an island in the Carribean. Her family immigrated to the United States when she was 8 years old. She has a bachelor’s degree in Health and Nutrition, as well Nursing. Mrs. Akhlaghi worked in the Operating Room Nurse, and as a nurse in the Emergency Department.
John Akhlaghi, Jr.
John Aklhlaghi, Jr. was born in January 2001. As a senior at Providence School of Jacksonville, John enrolled in the AnnieRuth Foundation’s Summer Internship Program. As a result of John’s dedication and commitment, he was selected as a 2019 Award Recipient.
Because of John’s love for Finance, he completed his internship experience at Merrill Lynch. John attended the University of North Florida and currently attends Florida State College of Jacksonville. John is a natural businessman and one day hopes to become a financial advisor.
Jordon Akhlaghi
Jordon Akhlaghi was born in November 2008. He attends Julia Landing Middle School and will attend Wolfson High School for advance studies in the Fall. Jordan is quite the athlete who enjoys soccer, tennis, and swimming. Jordon aspires to one day become a part of the Judicial system and/or become a politician.
The Akhlaghi Family
The Akhlaghi family understands the importance of having a solid education. Additionally, the family knows, first-hand, how the AnnieRuth Foundation educates youth; positioning them for a successful future. For these reasons, the family is committed to having the AnnieRuth Foundation host an annual scholarship fund in the family’s name. Eligibility criteria is based on family members current careers and future career aspirations.
Scholarship Eligibility:
- Current 12th grader
- Maintain a 3.0 GPA
- Aspires to become a medical professional, financial advisor, or study in the field of law
Scholarship Selection
The organization will announce the award recipient in August. The award recipient will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
A rigorous application review includes:
- A 700-word, original essay (explaining which member of the Akhlaghi family do you most identify with)
- 2 letters of recommendation (one from a teacher/school administrator; one personal, non-family related)
- High school transcript
- College acceptance letter
Application Timeline
The application, essay, letters of recommendation, transcript, and college acceptance letter are due by June 30. Scholarship semi-finalists will be notified by August 31.
